I loved this exploration, especially the way you connected aesthetic experience to emotional regulation. In my clinical work, I see how often people turn to art instinctively during periods of overwhelm — not because they “know art,” but because their nervous system knows it needs another language. The idea that creating or viewing art links the raw emotional centers with the higher meaning-making systems is exactly what so many of my clients describe when they say, “I don’t have words for it, but this helped me feel like myself again.”

Your point about belief shaping beauty resonated too. We talk a lot about essentialism in psychology, but seeing how it shows up in something as simple as a child’s reaction to a blob of paint really captures how relational our experience of art is — we respond to story, intention, and connection, not just form.

And I really appreciate the reminder that art doesn’t belong to experts. Some of the most profound “art moments” I’ve ever seen happened in people who would never call themselves artistic — they just allowed themselves to slow down, feel, and be moved.

Beautiful piece.
